In a country roamed four sisters
who agreed amongst themselves
to change the turn their lives took
save Chayyim, for she knew they had it all

They sought a fair maiden in a hidden land
her beauty and poise put the Queen to shame
a maven with power so rebel
but then came her burden, her pricey deathly hues

The sisters found her lair
all shadows and thorny barks
they wondered if she was pure
or just a witch with means

The maiden whispered of the Lotus, black
which held the secret to all her prime
she warned them of its price
but the greedy sisters paid no heed

The maiden had no choice
but to proffer their real desires
they were blessed with means
but she knew the avid sort

She led them past a willow to a muddy lake
that rippled and stilled by the currents turn
the stretchy Lotus' roots grasped for life beneath
the murky depths of the ripply lake

Wading through the water
she ripped them off their healths
she ground them and beat them
and gave the lot to eat

The sisters chewed with greed
slurping in their needs
the ground petals and bland stems
dissolving with their slaver

To Korah, it gave power and Archille’s might
to Shaina, it gave rebellion against her dreary fiends
to Adira, it gave beauty and grace to be worn
but Chayyim, sweet Chayyim paid the heavy price

The sisters now three, pulled their dearest sis
they wept for the beauteous soul lost beyond the list
they rode back to their country with a heavy heart
and lived a life far worse than the last

Lone in her thorny, hoody lair
the maiden pondered the frosty cause
as she cursed the scheming Lotus, black
then went to tend their rooty charms
